Jorge Vargas

Jorge Vargas is originally from Santiago, Chile, and has extensive experience as an educator and musician. He has taught in both Chile and Canada and previously owned two private language schools, Connections Canada and Canada College (1995–2000). From 2000 to 2011, he worked as a Sessional Lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta. Since 2002, Jorge has been an educator with Edmonton Public Schools, teaching Spanish, ESL, and Guitar 15.

 

Jorge is married and has three children—a son and two daughters—who graduated from J.P. High School and have gone on to earn university degrees. An accomplished guitarist and musician, Jorge has performed throughout Alberta for many years, participating in various music projects.

 

He serves as the president of the St. Albert Latin Cultural Association (SALCA) and is the CEO of the St. Albert Latin Festival. Jorge has also collaborated with the Edmonton Hispanic Bilingual Association for many years, teaching Levels 1, 2, and 3 of their programs. During class breaks at McKernan School, Jorge often entertains students, sharing his musical talent as a guitarist. These performances provide students with an opportunity to relax and connect with their classmates while enjoying Jorge’s music and expertise.
